* Creationists believe that the biblical account

of the world is literally true.

It is mainly held by fundamental protestant

sects in the United States but has spread

to other countries, including the UK.

* They do not believe the massive evidence

for evolution. Instead they believe that the

different species were separately created

and have not evolved since.

* In recent decades they have developed

"creation science" which aims to

demonstrate through the methods of

science itself that the Genesis account

is essentially correct and the earth is

really 6000 years old. They argue that

creationism should be taught in science

classes as an alternative theory to evolution.
